Sustainable Cruising

June 22nd

We started the day with 10-15kts out of the northwest. We got in a couple of nice hours of sailing before the winds lessened and we needed to motor south. Our loss of two weeks has had us reconsidering some of our destinations, and we’re trying to move south a bit more quickly than we’d really like. We were planning to stop in Kent Narrows, as there were free docks at a restaurant there … and I’ve been craving some Maryland seafood. The docks and narrows were crowded (Saturday), water shallow, and we hit the lift bridge at max current so we just kept moving. There were plenty of local anchorages that looked nice, but we pressed on. Saint Michaels was close, and a top destination for us, so we decided that would be our next stop. So much to do, we decided to get a slip rather than anchor. Higgins Yacht Yard is under new ownership, and had a spot for us. The owner answered the phone immediately and met us at our slip. It seems marinas, in general, just don’t answer phones – so we were happy. Nice and clean facilities here, and the town is amazing. Simply walking around is a treat, and plenty of interesting stops to make.
